January Ends With A Satan Car!

Me. January 28th. Photo by Mike Saulters

January flew by. I ended the month with 91 films watched, but not as many visits to a theatre as I had hoped. The influx of new titles in the upcoming months should rectify that.

OBALTAN (aka AIMLESS BULLET aka STRAY BULLET)

Of the 91 films watched, 21 were Korean and one of those Korean movies was from North Korea (the wretched PULGASARI).  My Korean project also gave me one of my surprises of the month, the riveting OBALTAN (1961). I generally leave film reviews to the professionals, so check out the review from New Korean Cinema.

NEDS

My other surprise of the month was NEDS, a film from 2010. The film is subtitled because characters are Scottish. At first I was put off by the presence of subtitles, but quickly embraced them when words like “eejit” began being thrown around. A completely engaging film.  Review from The Guardian

On the horizon: British crime films from the 1960s & 1970s, a hunt for more Scottish films, and a lot more Korean cinema.
